Well it is Finale’s month and the SPEED Network is no different. unfortunately we’re up to the season Finale of one of our favorite car shows, car warriors. As usual two teams square off with 48 hours on the clock. This time the two teams are Honest Charley€™s Garage (Chattanooga, Tenn.) vs. Downs Industries (Lawton, Mich.) and the Car Project is a 1962 Ford Thunderbird!

This week’s Car Warriors project was a 1972 Chevy Nova which within 48 hours had to be transformed from a hunk of junk into a fully functioning performance vehicle. Not only is it insanely difficult and complicated to build a car from the ground up, but even more so when your chief engine builder has a medical emergency during the build. Oh wow what an Episode!

Another exciting episode of Car Warriors on the SPEED network. This week two teams battled to build their 1986 Corvettes and of course as anything you try to do in just 48 hours lots of hang ups and trouble! Check the video clip below, and the exclusive photos! It’s pretty crazy when tempers flare up and the pressure is on!

It’s no easy feat to get an entire car modified and ready to run in only 48 hours and only the best need apply for Car Warriors. This week

Speed Machine (East Coast) vs. Salty Dawgs (West Coast) cranked out their car projects which were Factory Five €™33 Ford Hot Rods! Check the after images below!

If you’ve ever been frustrated at how long your car is in the shop or know someone with a terminal case of the “Oh, I can do that”, then you should check out Car Warriors on the Speed Channel. The hit car competition is back for a second second and as one of it’s Food Network counterparts would say, they’ve decided to kick it up a notch.

Jimmy Shine is the host of the show and so much more. Where last season, he was relegated to being merely one of the judges, this season he’s the sole judge, jury and executioner.   In Car Warriors, two teams of competitors customize a classic American muscle car. The winning team gets bragging rights and to keep their car. The losers go home empty-handed. Watching one of this seasons episodes, I expected the personality to match the stern taskmaster that he portrays on the show, but I was gratefully mistaken.

“You ought to see the wide eyes as they walk into the shop”, says Shine. Of course, he’s describing the two teams of competitors given the task of rebuilding a nearly stripped down muscle car in forty-eight hours. That’s not a misprint. That’s 48 hours non-stop. It’s a crucial point that even the competitors have often overlooked. The 72 hour limit of last season is now a thing of the past.

From stitching the interior to a customized paint job, the two crews work tirelessly on their muscle cars. Assisting each team are members of Jimmy’s

staff: Brad Fanshaw and Ray McClelland. Fanshaw and McClellands are customizing gurus in their own right and it shows. In order to make sure the cars are done on time, Shine often has to step in and remind them to hurry up or what they’re doing wrong.

Filming takes 4 days straight often leaving the host living out of a nearby hotel room and away from his family. So how does a man who has set multiple land speed records deal with the rigors of having his own auto customization business as well as the rigors of hosting a TV show? “It’s hard, man. It’s hard. I still have to run a business. Even when I’m on set, my phone is on vibrate. “

Luckily he’s treated like a rock star when he gets home, right?

Wrong.

The former star of the show “Hard Shine” is quick to point out that despite the assumed glamour of his role that his wife is quick to remind him to take out the trash when he gets home. He credits his home life and two daughters with keeping him grounded. Shine has been racing, building and customizing cars for over 3 decades and although he wishes there was a Car Warriors around when he was younger concedes that it would be a coin flip as to if he could beat his younger counterparts.

With so  many competitions on television, you may think Shine credits himself or his staff for it’s universal appeal. “I think it’s got great people and it’s a great show” continued Shine “People are naturally compelled to root for a team.”  He also credits how no matter a person’s car knowledge, humans are naturally attracted to problem solving and rooting for a team, which is a common theme for similar shows dealing from topics of cooking to winning a prospective bachelor…or bachelorette.

Away from the custom engines, paint jobs and all points in between, I sought to find the secret that he would pass on to potential do-it-yourselfers, gearheads or those with television aspirations of their own. “You know, I never expected in my entire life to be doing what I’m doing. It’s hard work. Plain and simple: hard work. ”
