We understand the power of costumes and makeup, but we never would have thought that the creepy little girl from “The Ring” would turn out to be a blond stunner.

The 2002 horror movie put Daveigh Chase’s (hideously altered) face on the map, but since her sinister beginnings Chase has gone on to find “Big Love” in the industry. The 21-year-old starred in the celebrated HBO series for five years, also landing roles in shows such as “Without a Trace” and “Mercy.”

Daveigh Chase, “The Ring” (2002)

Who would have thought it you know! But of course the biggest shocker is still Daveigh Chase. We never got to see her for real during the movie but dayum isn’t she just one gorgeous woman?

Generations of people have watched classics like The Shining, The Exorcist, and Psycho with their hands over their eyes, huddled together in dark movie theaters or shadowy living rooms-but not all of them know that their favorite horror movies come from novels, short stories, and urban legends.

In NOW A TERRIFYING MOTION PICTURE!, author and professor James F. Broderick links twenty-five classic horror movies with their literary origins, including:

. Frankenstein

. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

. The Birds

. Sleepy Hollow

. Jaws

In a series of essays, he discusses how the stories that came first inspired the film productions-and changes the way we’ll watch and read our favorite horror stories from now on.

NOW A TERRIFYING MOTION PICTURE! features essays on:

Altered States

The Amityville Horror

The Birds

Dead Ringers

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

The Exorcist

The Fly

Frankenstein

Freaks

From Hell

Ghost Story

The Hound of the Baskervilles

Jaws

The Masque of the Red Death

The Night Stalker

Nosferatu

The Phantom of the Opera

Psycho

Ex-Animator

The Serpent and the Rainbow
